Buffalo BookBike is a summer literacy outreach program and a vehicle to distribute free, quality books to children. We go where the children are in the summertime – parks and playgrounds!
Our aim is to:
- Keep kids excited about reading throughout the summer in an effort to avoid the “summer slide” in which children of a lower socioeconomic status can lose 3-4 months of reading growth.
- Focus on parks in disconnected “book deserts” and where free lunches are served.
- Model active living and encourage healthy lifestyle choices.
